Essential Oils are essential for Travel
www. Self-HealthEssentials.com
People often ask about an easy Guide to Oils for Travel. Following is a starting point. We have tried to categorize likely situations you might meet. In most cases you will see blends listed rather than single oils because blends tend to be more all-purpose. Items without an asterisk are somewhat less general but have much value where applicable.
There is much overlap in function between many oils. Where overlap occurs, use any of them.
1. Always keep vegetable oil available to dilute “hot” oils, for stinging on the skin, and for accidental eye contact. DO NOT use water to dilute or wash oils off the skin. It only exacerbates the discomfort.
2. Some oils are photosensitive. These include all citrus oils, lemongrass, and many blends. Consult the Essential Oils Desk Reference.
3. NEVER drop oils into the ear canal.
4. Avoid menthol type oils like peppermint with children under 30 months old.
5. For people with epilepsy or very high blood pressure avoid hyssop, fennel, Idaho tansy, and blends containing these oils.
Store oils in tightly capped amber or cobalt glass bottles. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 120 F. Best to avoid exposure to x-rays (if possible, hand check at airports or ship in checked luggage.) If accidental exposure occurs, bless them (the oils and the people) and go on.
We wouldn’t expect you to buy, transport and know every item we have included here. It is just a guide to the most applicable products, especially for use in under-developed countries, for yourself and for those you come in contact with. From this guide can make choices that seem most important to you. Also remember, much of the cost will be offset from other products you will not need, i.e. anti-biotic cream, pain relievers, etc. In the case of the suggested food items, they should be counted as part of the food budget.
